Distracted Driving Accidents

What Is Distracted Driving?

Distracted driving takes many forms, all of which take a driver’s attention off the road for a dangerous amount of time. Even seemingly minor forms of distraction can lead to accidents that result in life-changing injuries or even death. Distracted driving in Ohio commonly involves:

  • Texting while driving
  • Talking on a cellphone while driving
  • Reading email on a mobile device
  • Looking at a GPS device or map while behind the wheel
  • Adjusting radios, using an MP3 player or changing CDs in a car’s CD player
  • Eating
  • Grooming (typically brushing hair, applying makeup or shaving)
  • Talking to passengers

At Volkema Thomas, LLC, we have the trial skills and trusted investigation techniques necessary to determine whether these or other distractions led to an accident and to hold negligent drivers accountable for the harm they cause to others. All of our attorneys are AV Preeminent peer review-rated* by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available. This peer recognition shows that we are seen not only as effective advocates for injured clients, but also as a resource for other attorneys who recognize our commitment to legal excellence. This reputation has led to many referrals from other attorneys who know that we are able to effectively resolve even the most complicated injury law and wrongful death matters.

Texting While Driving

Texting while driving is one of the most quickly increasing causes of distracted driving accidents in Ohio and across the nation. Ohio law prohibits texting while driving; in addition to the criminal penalties this can lead to. Those who cause a car accident while texting and driving can be held civilly liable for the harm that results from their actions.

We obtain records from telephone carriers, investigate electronic devices that may have been used to text, re-create accident scenes, and examine all phone records and other evidence to seek justice for those who have been injured or lost a loved one due to a negligent driver’s decision to text and drive.
